Ocean depth is usually measured in fathoms, but that is not a relatable unit and is often converted. Echosounding determined the depth of an area off the coast of Bermuda to be 780 fathoms. How many meters is this? (1 fathom=1.8 meters)

    1404 m

    Explanation:

    Given that

Depth of ocean = 780 fathoms

    Given that

    1 fathoms = 1.8 metes

    1 fathoms = 1.8 m

    Therefore 780 fathoms

    1 x 780 fathoms = 1.8 x 780 m

    780 fathoms = 1.8 x 780 m

    780 fathoms = 1404 m

Therefore the depth of the ocean in meters will be 1404 m.

Note - A fathom is a unit of length equal to 6 feet (1.828 m) in the imperial and U. S. customary systems, especially used to measure water depth in the ocean. In such an imperial fathom there are two yards (6 feet).
