Between protons there is a force of repulsion, this is due to Coulomb's law, which states that two charges that have the same sign, experiences a repulsive force.

The strong nuclear force is responsible for holding together the protons that coexist in the atomic nucleus, overcoming the electromagnetic repulsion between them.
