Elements are made up of the same type of atom and are classified by the number of protons they contain.

Elements are classified according to the number of protons they contain.
carbon has 6 protons and 6 electrons and 6 neutrons.
copper has 29 electrons, 29 electrons and 34 neutrons.
an element is a " kind " of atom. There are over hundreds of them.
anyways they are are elements because they are all made up of the same type of atoms!
