    The common misconception that people have is that steam engine was invented by James Watt.

    James Watt Remodeled it, to a much much better version.

    But the real inventors of steam engine are Thomas Savery and Thomas Newcomen in 1698

    If referring to Train engines being steam powered then it would be James Watt, however initially Thomas Savery and later Thomas Newcomen had already made a steam engine system and gotten it patented by the time James Watt was born.
