To the South, West and East it was isolated by the desert. The desert, Sahara, de facto made any journey to and from Egypt nearly impossible, which means that Egypt was isolated in this way.

To the north, Egypt bordered the Mediterranean, which means that it was achievable by long journey on the sea, but not on the land.
