    The independent variables of Dr. Baldwin's experiment are thc and oregano.

    Explanation:

    Independent variables are the different conditions tested in an experiment. They are composed by control and test variables. In Dr. Baldwin's experiment the indepent variables are the substances that were administred: THC, one of cannabis active compounds, as test variable; and oregano, a herb usually used in culinary, as control variable.

    I believe the answer is: what they were smoking; oregano: control;

    independent variable refers to the variables that could not be affected by other variable. The independent variables are the one that can be controlled by the researchers in order to see how they would affect the dependent variables and to proof their hypothesis.
