Why our knee joint bends only in one direction

    The ligaments, tendons, and muscles of the knee prevent it from hyperextending or bending backwards. Most notably, the posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) prevents the knee from hyperextending by connecting the femur (thigh bone) to the tibia (shin bone).
