A quadratic has the form ax^2 + bx + c. Graphing will generate a parabola.

If it can be factored or using the quadratic formula for real numbers, it will cross

the X-axis twice, call the zeroes, which are the two solutions to the problem set = to zero.

If in the quadratic formula, if b^2 - 4ac is less than zero, graphically it will not cross the X-axis because the roots are imaginary. b^2 - 4ac is called the Discriminate and real roots means it will be greater or equal to zero.
